वस्त्रेण वपुषा वाचा विद्यया विनयेन च (एतै:) वकारपञ्चभि: हीन: नर: गौरवम् न आप्नोति |
There are 5 basic resources starting from वकार which bring us respect in the society. They are clothing, strong and attractive personality, speech, education(knowledge) and humility.
A well robed person is always respected in the society. Also one with a good physique too. But the knowledge is the one which brings more respect than the first two and humility adds to this!
In general, people try to judge a person from his clothing! We generally see that people respect a person, may be a rich or a scholar or who so ever first looking at his dressing style. On the other hand, if one is indecently, badly dressed, how rich, or a great scholar or a great personality one may be, people do not consider or respect him! Dressing may also represent a person’s own ‘self’ or a country’s culture or a religion or even a region! So we should be careful while dressing ourselves! If we are supposed to represent a country, it would be shameful if we are dressed as a foreigner and this would definitely not earn respect to the country we represent!
People generally admire those with a good physique. But it has to be noted that it is not just the external beauty that has to be considered. The inner beauty, the beauty of the heart has to be observed! We may get cheated many a times if we just run behind the physical beauty of a person. We come across many people who are damn beautiful by looks, but are the most ugly at heart!
So its better not to judge a person just by his physical looks and dressing styles. Its always good to look at a person from the heart; rather than from the eyes. Try to understand the language of the heart, speak to the heart!
The third one is speech which is more important than the first two. May be a very learned person, if he does not know the right way to bring it into words, what is the use of that knowledge indeed?? Also a person who is kind and good at heart speaks harshly, will it be accepted by the people around him? No way! Many people who are least learned, cruel or with all negativities in them, win the hearts of lakhs of people just by their speeches! We can find people just blindly surrendering themselves to such persons ! We may have good intentions but if it is wrongly or badly expressed, then we may lose our dear ones too! So our words should always be carefully used. If not it may be sharper than a knife or deadly than the bite of a poisonous snake! So it has to be always bared in mind that our speech earns us lots of respect as well as disrespect too! Our words may build a relation or even spoil a relation!
The next is education, knowledge. A foolish person may be respected only in his house, the head of a village will be respected only in his village, a king will be worshipped only in his kingdom but the only person who is respected everywhere is a SCHOLAR! So education is the only thing which earns us respect every where!
Also education is the source of all wealth indeed
विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद्याति पात्रताम् |
पात्रत्वाद्धनमाप्नोति धनात् धर्म: तत: सुखम् |
Education(knowledge) gives us humility. Humility makes us worthy beings and bring us recognition. Worthiness generates wealth which is then followed by virtue which in turn brings us happiness, pleasure, joy and comforts!
True happiness is outcome of the other four! Any comfort got just by misdeeds will never bring us happiness and is never permanent.
A human being has to become educated, earn knowledge to be respected, to be called a human being, without which he will be equal to an animal, since knowledge is the only thing which differs him from an animal!
Here its really necessary to know what actually is vidyaa. सा विद्या या विमुक्तये | vidyaa is the one which leads us to liberation and rest of them which just help us to earn a living is termed as avidyaa. Vidyaa alone can earn us respect. A right combination of vidyaa and avidyaa will earn tremendous respect. But avidyaa alone can never make us respectful in the society!
The last one is humility. One although educated, does not have humility but filled only with egotism will also be least respected in the society! If one is bound by ego, in the true sense is not at all a well educated person because true education definitely results in humility! If no humility, then no proper education!
Learned people rank these 5 from last to first(from vinaya to vastra) where as priority of the uneducated is from first to last! that is from vastra to vidya and vinaya!
If you really wish to represent your country, work for your country, bring back the glory of your country, first learn to respect your culture, tradition. Dress like an Indian, speak like an Indian, behave like an Indian and then only you will earn respect as an Indian!
I find people who are deadly opposite to all these, but just keep shouting as patriots! Forgetting ourselves, being a foreigner at heart, just shouting as a citizen of this nation or a patriot will never inspire others and no change can ever be brought about!
When one feels ashamed – to dress as an Indian, speak as an Indian, behave like an Indian, trust his own people, use her own products, respect her own educational values, her culture, tradition, what right will he have to speak about his country?? Will his fight for his country be successful ??Can a country filled with only such people ever survive?? Days are not too far when our next generations will never find a country named Bharath in the world map! Not even one person fit to be called an Indian too will be found if the same situation persists!
